Nurse's Week Celebration 2012

Nurses logoNurse's Week will be celebrated from Sunday, May 6 through Friday, May 11.

Nurses Week educational programs are partially funded through the Danforth O'Neil Fund.

The Danforth O'Neil Fund was established in 1983 to mark the retirement and honor the years of service of Claire O'Neil, RN MSN CNAA, Assistant Hospital Director and Director of Nursing at John Dempsey Hospital. The fund was named in memory and honor of Ms. O'Neil's parents.

The Danforth O'Neil Fund is dedicated to the education of nurses and sponsors an annual lecture at the University of Connecticut Health Center at which national experts speak on topics of special interest to nurses. The fund also serves to support the nursing interest conferences, in house seminars and educational materials. The fund continues to grow through the generous support of Claire O'Neil.

2012 Nightingale Award for Excellence in Nursing
Nightingale Awards for Excellence in Nursing logo

The Nightingale Awards for Excellence in Nursing program was originally developed by the Visiting Nurse Association of South Central Connecticut to be a collaborative effort to celebrate outstanding nurses and elevate the nursing profession. The goals of the program are to encourage retention, inspire future nurses, focus public attention and recognize the breadth and scope of nursing practice at the local level.

We are pleased to announce that the University of Connecticut Health Center was the official sponsor of the Hartford regional event, which took place on May 10, 2012. Ten nurses from the Health Center (six nurses from the main campus of the Health Center and four nurses from Correctional Managed Health Care) were honored at this year's gala.
